SEMPORNA: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal is saddened that certain political groups are using the Ramadan month to spread lies against the Warisan-led Sabah government.
He said these groups are spreading slander against the Sabah government and Warisan by persistently claiming that the government was giving out identity cards to illegal immigrants.
“Don’t spread lies to score political points during this month. No point fasting when our actions don’t tally. Why cause hatred among mankind by spreading fake news on social media,” he told people at his home base of Semporna today.
Shafie was apparently referring to the latest lie being spread in the social media where groups of foreigners were seen allegedly applying for Malaysian identity cards through so-called government documents that were imprinted with the Warisan logo.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Azis Jamman as well as the National Registration Department had denied the existence of any programme to register illegals.
They also pointed out that the so-called forms with a government logo were no longer being used by the department.
Warisan has lodged a police report over the matter and did not discount it to be the work of certain opposition parties continuing to harp on the baseless claim that Warisan was activiely trying to make foreigners into Malaysians.
Shafie also stressed and reiterated that he did not have the authority to issue identity cards as it was constitutionally an authority of the federal government.
As a Chief Minister for all Sabahans, he assured development in all parts of Sabah had been planned and is being planned and it was only a matter of time before implemented.
He urged the politicking to stop and for everyone to work for the betterment of Sabah.
Some 2,000 people attended the breaking of fast event at the Ar-Rahman Mosque which saw Shafie giving Raya aid to hundreds of people including the poor and school children.-SabahNewsToday
