5,000 people to attend CNY Open House

KOTA KINABALU: Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin has been invited as the guest of honour for the new State Government inaugural Chinese New Year Open House celebration.

It will be held on the first day of Chinese New Year (Feb 5) at the Sabah Hakka Hall.

Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Christina Liew extended the invitation during a courtesy call on Tun Juhar, Tuesday.

“This is the first time the (new) Sabah State Government is organising an Open House for Chinese New Year. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal will be the host,” she said.

The guest of honour will perform the traditional Yee Sang (or Prosperity Toss) together with the Chief Minister and the rest of the Cabinet Ministers.

Liew, who is the Organising Chairperson, said the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment is organising the event, and co-organisers are the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS), Kota Kinabalu
City Hall (DBKK), Sabah Tourism Board (STB) and its subsidiary Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sdn Bhd.

“We estimate that 5,000 people will be present at the function which will be held from 10am to 3pm. Of the figure, 1,000 people will beinvited guests while the rest are members of the public,” she said.

Food for the guests will be provided by Sabah Hakka Hall while food trucks will be available to cater to the public. – SabahNewsToday
