KOTA KINABALU: Come July 18, Sabahans will be in for a rare treat by Malaysian-born acclaimed pianist Claudia Yang.

Yang, who is internationally renowned for her musical talent, will perform at the Sabah State Administrative Centre (PPNS) Main Auditorium together with an 80-member Symphony Orchestra from Quangxi, China.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment and the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu are co-organising the inaugural concert, which is conjunction with the commemoration of 45 years of Malaysia-China Diplomatic ties.

Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said the event has the full support of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and the State Government.

Head of State Tun Haji Juhar Datuk Haji Mahiruddin will be the guest of honour.

At a recent courtesy call on Liew by the Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Liang Caide to finalise the venue, the latter said the concert performance will not be open to the public.

“The concert is not a commercial event because it is part of a celebration to commemorate 45 years of Malaysia-China Diplomatic Relations.

“Attendance is by invitation. We are giving out 1,000 free tickets to guests from the State Cabinet, elected representatives, senior government officials, community leaders and leaders of Chinese clan associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs),” he explained.

During their discussion, Liew, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, assured the Consul-General that her Ministry will provide the necessary assistance through the Sabah Tourism Board (STB) to ensure success of the concert.

Present at the meeting were the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary William Baya, STB General Manager Suzaini Datuk Sabdin Ghani and Marketing Manager Ebony Loong.

Last December, Yang was in Kota Kinabalu to meet Liew and Liang to discuss her concert.-SabahNewsToday
