Oleh Sabah News Today

KOTA KINABALU: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law) Datuk Liew Vui Keong today has clarified that he did not urge the Federal Government to review the freeze on Native Certificate.

Instead, according to his Political Secretary Martin Tommy, Liew had urged the State Government to look into the issue faced among the Sino Kadazandusun Murut (KDM) community.

“In fact, Liew did not mention “Federal Government” in his speech hence why I need to make this clarification to clear the misunderstanding,” he said in a statement here, today.

Martin said in Liew’s original text of speech during the Koubasanan Om Raani Tavanus Tadau Sino Kadazandusun Murut event at Bukit Padang over the weekend, he (Liew) had urged the State government to review the the freeze on Native Certificate by the Berjaya government since 1982.

However, a local paper in Sabah reported yesterday that the Federal government will review the freeze on the issuance of Native Certificates which is incorrect, he said.

He explained that the Federal Government will not interfere in matters pertaining to native rights as it is under the State Government’s purview.-SabahNewsToday/JPM
