KOTA KINABALU: The Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) will continue to pursue the construction and setting up of the proposed KDM College in Tambunan six years ago.

President Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said that while the plan to build the KDM College had to be put on hold due to the financial constraint but “our goal is for it to materialise.”

Pairin who is Huguan Siou said this when met after the installation of KDCA new supreme council members for the 2018/2020 term at ITCC Grand Ballroom here Thursday.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the KDM College was done at the Tambunan Pisompuruan Square in June 2012 by then Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

But the project earmarked in Kaingaran has never taken off.

“As a voluntary organisation we have to depend on contributions from the public. Even though we are hoping for assistance from the government but we will also be getting help from the public,” he said.

Pairin said the Huguan Siou Charitable Foundation had also been set up with the main purpose of providing assistance to boost education level among the KDM community.

Apart from that KDCA would also hold fund raising campaign through events like golf tournament, he said when asked about KDCA’s plans for the next three years.

According to him, education was among KDCA’s foremost priorities as is the main tool that will strengthen the community’s economy

He said KDCA had also set up a Kadazandusun kindergarten in Tenghilan.

“It will take time and a lot energy and efforts but we are working towards it.

“This is what we are aiming for, this is our ambitions. It is a sincere ambition in order to see our community going to a higher pedestal,” he said.

Earlier, Pairin took his oath as president of KDCA for term 2018-2021, which he won unopposed in the association’s delegates conference recently.

Taking the president chair later, he then witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of all the central committee members, including those appointed.
