KOTA KINABALU: Accelerated Capital Allowances (ACA) and Tax Exemption extension for members are among issues that Matta presidential candidate Datuk Tan Kok Liang and his team has promised to deliver once elected for the 2019/2021 term.
Tan’s line-up dubbed Team Malaysia has underlined this issue and several others in its 20-point Master Plan as its election manifesto in conjunction with the upcoming Malaysia Association of Travel and Tour Agents (Matta) annual general meeting (AGM) on July 13.
“We will push for ACA to support the purchase of tourism vehicles, website development/upgrade and information communication technology (ICT)/automation tool including software and apps because this will encourage modernisation and enable travel agencies adopt the latest technology and automation tools for the tourism sector.
“We will also lobby to extend incentives granted by the government for inbound tour operators for year 2020 to 2025 and to ease conditions for new and SME companies to qualify for the exemption covering bumiputera operators,” said Tan.
Team Malaysia also promised to provide an active and nationwide engagement on land transport for members.
A Land Transport Committee member will be appointed in every State Chapter so that plans can be rolled out more effectively, he said.
“This includes holding regular dialogues with the Ministry of Transport to resolve issues in a timely manner.
‘The State Land Transport Committee Member will also begin to provide quarterly updates to Matta Exco on various issues such as to limit the travel distance of foreign travel buses in Malaysia for the sake of Malaysian ground operators and lobby for the exemption of tourist guides for point-to-point transfers,” said Tan.
The State Land Transport Committee would also introduce unique designs for corporate and chartered buses, to extend the legal lifespan of buses from 13 to 15 years, to introduce or build apps for better land transport communication and management between participating land transport members.
The committee would also works toward getting entrance fees waiver at all Malaysian airports and to lobby for free tour vehicle parking space so they no more have to park at residential parking lots anymore.
Other issues that Tan’s team promised to work on was expansion of markets for Bumiputera Operators.
“The team and I are looking forward to serving you for another term and to leverage what we have built to push for better conditions for all our members from every aspect of the industry,” he said.
