TAWAU, Sept 23 (Bernama) — The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (MODTCA) will announce measures to address the smuggling out of goods from Sabah to neighbouring countries.
Its minister, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the matter was discussed by the federal and state government during a meeting with Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
“Tightening monitoring at the border and enhance efficiency of the agencies involved are among strategies to be taken.
“We will announce it after the matter has been finalised,” he told reporters at the opening of Tawau TeaLive here today.
On the standardisation of price of essential items, Saifuddun said the ministry was prepared to do it.
“We want the price of essential items in the interiors of Sabah to be standardised with the price of goods in Petaling Jaya or other places by ensuring the additional cost is absorbed by the ministry,” he said.
On today’s opening of the 198th Tawau TeaLive outlet, Saifuddin said he was optimistic that the franchise industry in the country would continue to thrive.
As such, he urged local entrepreneurs to venture into the franchise industry for better income.
