Most Creative Traditional Costume Design contest finals on Sept 6

PENAMPANG: The Most Creative Traditional Costume Design contest organised by Upko Wanita culminates this Friday with a total of 30 entries vying for top honours in two categories.

According to organising chairperson, Nazlin Jemandan in the finals would be held during a charity dinner at Sabah Cultural Centre.

Proceeds from table sales would go to two chosen charity organisations namely the Sabah Autism Society and Penampang In-Situ Community Rehabilitation Centre.

The contest was divided into Category A for creative traditional wedding (bride and groom) attire and Category B for the creative traditional office attire.

Entries in both categories must be designed for both female and male.

A total of 15 entries have been received for each categories and a “fashion show” would be held to judge the designs.

Winners of both categories stand to win RM3,500 cash prize plus a trophy and certificate while the second and third prize winners would take home RM2,500 and RM1,500 respectively.

Those in fourth to ninth place would receive RM300 cash while those from 10th to 15th place would receive RM200.

Upko Women organised the contest in the hope it may assist in encouraging more state civil servants wear traditional attires to work every Thursday.

According to her, the winners of both categories stands to win RM3,500 cash prize plus a trophy and certificate while the second and third prize winners would take home RM2,500 and RM1,500 respectively.
