KOTA KINABALU: Chairman of Xi’an New Silk Road Association for the Promotion of International Communication, Wang Yunzhen has expressed keen interest in getting Xi’an and Kota Kinabalu to be declared as sister cities.
She made the ‘sisterhood’ proposal for economic benefits during a courtesy call on Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew at the latter’s office, here, Monday.
Xi’an is a large city in central China and well-known to Malaysians who have visited the place.
Welcoming the twinning proposal, Liew, who is also Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, said : “It will definitely boost tourist arrivals from Xi’an. I will discuss the matter with City Mayor Datuk Nordin Siman.”
According to her, there were more than 20 charter flights from Xi’an to Kota Kinabalu between January and February this year in view of the Chinese New Year Festival.
Wang also extended an invitation to the Minister to lead a delegation to visit Xi’an in the near future.
She was accompanied by the President of Sabah-China Chamber of Commerce, Datuk Frankie Liew and Vice-President Datuk Kevin Lim.
The Chairman, who spent one week in Sabah, said she was fascinated by scenic sights and beautiful places in the State.-SabahNewsToday
