KOTA KINABALU: The proposed Sabah Temporary Sabah or Pas Sementara Sabah (PSS) first needs to be tuned to fit the aspiration of Sabahans and present State Government to resolve the problem inherited from past administrations.
Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) Deputy President Datuk Darell Leiking said so far, the PSS has not been brought to the Federal Cabinet (for approval) hence, the Federal Government should work with the State Government and get it right.
Met after the GelSoft Sabah launch at Marriot Hotel here today, the Minister of Trade and Industry (Miti) said he had raised his concerns to the Federal Cabinet on the need to tread carefully before the PSS is implemented.
“For Datuk Shafie and Government of Sabah, I don’t think they will agree just like that. They will make sure the interest of Sabah comes first,” he said.
“I have raised my concerns, which was also the exact concern raised by Datuk Shafie. We want to know the exact details. We cannot allow something that does not complement what the Chief Minister wants to do for our state,” he said.
Darell who is also Penampang MP said so far, the explanations given have been good but the problem was that it has been manipulated by people.
“Manipulated … some more through emotion, just think, we have this problem what are we going to do about this problem?
He said the PSS, as disclosed by Upko President Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau and a Warisan Vice President Datuk Junz Wong, was actually a proposal under the previous government to solve the problem, albeit under a different name that is Pas Residen Sementara Sabah (PRESS).
“To me they (oppositions) they first have to clarify what is PRESS while the narrative for PSS has already been explained by the Chief Minister and (Deputy Home Minister) Datuk Azis Jamman,” he said.
He said it was revealed that PSS was actually an idea that had been discussed and agreed upon by both the committees set up under the recommendation of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants in Sabah by the previous government.
The main steering committee was jointly-chaired by then Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman and then Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi while the technical committee was chaired by Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, he said.
The proposal, however, never see the light as the BN Government collapsed in the 14th General Election.
In this respect, Darell called on everyone to be patient and wait for the full details to be furnished by the Federal Government on the proposed issuance of PSS to replace the three type of documents namely the IMM13, Kad Burung-Burung and Surat Bancian.
“For now, the Federal Government, as mentioned by Datuk Shafie, actually has yet to give the State Government the full details,” he said.
“For those who have so many opinions over something that has not been finalised. Please, be patient.
“You’ve allowed your friends, who were in the previous government … who lost the last election to continue talking bad about something that they themselves had come up with.
“(At least) here we are trying to say what they (BN) had come up with (PRESS) was the solution, so let’s improve this solution,” he said.
“Why don’t we take them DNA-wise and Biometric-wise and exchange their current documents (namely) the IMM13, Kad Burung-Burung and Surat Bancian,
“For so many years the same people from the previous government who are complaining (now) never did anything other than the RCI which they never implemented anyway.
“I know many will be playing up the issue. They love to play this issue because it fits their narrative. They don’t want to talk about development because they didn’t do any development,” he said.
“Now they are saying (it is done by) Warisan. It is not Warisan, it is the solution. At least Datuk Shafie and the Federal Government are trying to find the solution,” he said, adding that what was needed now was the full detail of the PSS.-SabahNewsToday
